Coordinator, Student Programs

The Office of Student Engagement within the Student Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is currently accepting applications for the position of Coordinator, Student Programs.

As a central gathering place, the Student Center plays a significant role in the life of SIU Carbondale, supporting the university’s mission and enhancing the educational experience. We are committed to providing excellence in programs, services, and facilities while serving students and the community in a safe and inclusive environment. The Student Center is a unit within Student Affairs and functions as the primary event center for conferences, alumni, new student and parent events, and works to promote university and town/community events.

Position: The Coordinator of Student Programs is responsible to the Assistant Director of the Student Center (Programs) for assisting with the production of cultural, educational, entertainment and social programs of the Student Programming Council (SPC) and WIDB student-run radio station. The Coordinator of Student Programs will further: provide oversight to major campus programs and traditions including but not limited to Family Weekend, Sibs & Kids day and assist with Homecoming, Sunset Concerts in the summer, week of welcome and Saluki Start-up; Advising student leaders of the program board and the WIDB radio station; Assist with the development and monitor expenditures of the both SPC and WIDB operating budgets; Support the Student Center and Office of Student Engagement’s mission by promoting and providing a positive co-curricular opportunities, assist in the retention, persistence and graduation of students; Support the Assistant Director in planning and developing goals, programs, policies and procedures; Manage contract negotiations and bidding for programs within university procedures; Provide supervision of graduate assistants, student employees and interns.

Minimum Qualifications: One year of progressively responsible university programming and college-based experience. Must demonstrate effective communication, managerial and organizational skills. Must have ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other diverse groups. Position requires evenings and weekends hours.

Compensation: The salary for this position is commensurate with qualification and experience and includes an excellent fringe benefit package including vacation, sick leave, health insurance and waiver of tuition for up to six hours per term.
